On Monday, November 25, 2024, thousands of higher education students and staff demonstrated at the Malieveld in The Hague against the long-study penalty and budget cuts. With an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 attendees, the protest opposed the cabinet’s plans, including a proposed penalty that would require students who experience more than one year of study delay to pay an additional €3,000 in tuition fees per year.
